Adjusting for inflation, I would argue gas has never been cheaper. Below one buck in Michigan, and a nationwide average around 1.90/gal.
Per this page gas bottomed out at 1.61 in 1998. Using an inflation calculator, 1.61 in 1998 is 2.55 in today’s money.
Cheap gas indeed.

Not surprising, since gas was relatively inexpensive going into 2020 and we've had a crash in demand at the same time as an all out price war between 2 of the world's top 3 producers..

I remember in the late 90s in VA, I would routinely pay about $1/gallon. When I moved in 2000, I filled up for 70 cents/gallon at the gas station right on the corner of my town home complex. It was cheap to fill my Yukon, and prior to that, under $10 to fill the CRX.

I haven’t got gas in quite a while but Gas buddy is saying premium around here is $2.49 with $ 2.19 for regular. That’s also with only 1 of 5 in the area reporting though

Working with the US, o il producers have agreed to cut production by 10%, so look for prices to start edging up again. Because we wouldn’t want to hurt the oil company profits.
Trump says US will cut oil production to secure global deal

The lowest I can remember is just under a buck, $ .99 and the cheapest gas station for miles. It was usually 1.10-1.25. People thought 1.25 was too high.

$.70 was indeed rare, when it was that low, I was pretty pleased to start my road trip. I think the least expensive near me right now is Costco, it’s at $1.35 last I checked.

Typical Trump bullshit. The Feds can’t “force” production cuts in privately owned oil businesses. Nor can oil companies collude with each other to produce less. If an oil company wanted to increase production, they could, although the market would do little to reward them. Even with these cuts, oil is still crashing out, as consumption has tanked due to people staying at home world-wide.

My wife’s 2000 Ford Explorer heartily agrees with you. If we had someone where to go, I’d be road tripping come May.

Thats impressive, my personal best is mid 6's, but that was several days of being in low range and idling.

We drove down to Tennessee from NW Ohio back in February. Loaded with four grown people and luggage, we managed about 22 MPG on the highway, doing a decent 70 MPH. This in a truck with about 170K miles on it.
